Who hates KOBE BRYANT?
1. Shaquille O’Neal
2. Phil Jackson
3. Karl Malone
4. A LOT of fair weather and diehard basketball fans
6. Members of the national and local media
7. My homeboy Tau
8. Deion Sanders
9. Other players around the league
And the list just keeps on growing…exponentially. It’s as if it’s the “in” thing to do.
Well, I for one won’t be a member of that club. I love Kobe! And I have since he came into the league. There’s no other player I enjoy watching more than him and NOTHING that has transpired in the last year and a half has changed that.
Now, has he made some terrible mistakes? Yes.
Are some of the negative sentiments a direct result of his actions? Yes.
Do some people hate just to hate? Yes.
But I could care less about what those other cats think. He’s the best player in the league and he plays for my team. That’s all that matters to me. I don’t have the right to judge him as a person, but I can speak on his basketball abilities, and he’s official.
Everyone has skeletons in their closets, despite how sunny and pleasant their demeanor is. After the scandal in Colorado, some people reacted as if he invented infidelity. I mean it’s wrong, but it’s hardly uncommon. And then there are these stories about his marriage and a so-called rift with his family floating around, as if that should matter to us. None of that is any of my business, so I don’t concern myself with it. Unlike these other clowns whose private lives are quietly concealed so they feel empowered to point out the faults of others whose problems are on full display.
So I just want to PROUDLY go against the grain and say that I still root for Kobe Bryant, without ANY hesitation.
AS THE LEAGUE HAPPENS
–They have the best record in the league, the possible MVP in Steve Nash, and are playing incredible basketball, but I STILL DON’T BELIEVE IN THE SUNS…
— …Or the Sonics, even though they beat the Spurs TWICE!!!
–But they played a helluva game last Friday that Phoenix won on the road.
–It’s make or break time for Vince Carter. He’s on a new team with a great point guard, if he can’t return to form under these conditions, then we may (unfortunately) have to write him off for good.
–The Houston Rockets are looking a lot like the Orlando Magic of last season.
–I bet if he could, Kiki Vandeweghe would ask for a refund on Kenyon Martin.
–Things are starting to look a little better in Chicago, but just a little.
–Emeka Okafor is the Rookie of the Year so far.
–If he’s wide open, Bobby Simmons CAN’T MISS a 20-foot jumper.
–The Atlantic is the WORST division in the NBA.
–Paul Silas is no joke and that translates in any language.
–Someone should tell Michael Redd that it’s a contract year.
Aiight, and Happy Holidays.
