Penn clinches Ivy League crown, NCAA Tournament bid

Manhattan, NY (Sports Network) – Ibrahim Jaaber scored a career-high 26 points
to lead the Penn Quakers to an 80-72 victory over the Columbia Lions in an Ivy
League matchup.

Tim Begley broke the program’s career three-point record and finished with 24
points for Penn (17-8, 10-1 Ivy), which clinched the outright Ivy League title
and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Jan Fikiel added 14 points
for the Quakers.

John Baumann netted 17 points and Matt Preston added 11 points in defeat for
Columbia (12-13, 3-9).

The Quakers shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half and owned a 35-33
edge at intermission.

Penn was able to claim the win thanks to 13-of-19 shooting from the field over
the final 20 minutes. The Quakers return to the hardwood on Friday, March 4
when they host Dartmouth in The Palestra.

Fran Dunphy, the head coach of the Quakers, has now won 17 or more games in 11
seasons.
