Evansville’s Merfeld gets contract extension

Evansville, IN (Sports Network) – The University of Evansville announced that
men’s basketball coach Steve Merfeld has been awarded a two-year contract
extension that will keep him with the club through 2009.

Merfeld, who has been the coach since 2002, has compiled a record of 30-52 in
his three seasons, which includes an 11-16 mark this year.

“I am very grateful to (athletic director) Bill McGillis and President
(Stephen) Jennings for the extension of the contract,” Merfeld said. “The
University of Evansville is a wonderful place to work, people in the community
have been great to us, and I look forward to continuing to build our
basketball program.”

The Purple Aces have two regular season games remaining as they visit Drake on
Saturday before hosting Southwest Missouri State on Monday. The Missouri
Valley Conference Tournament then begins March 4.
