Chanticleers fire Strickland
Conway, SC (Sports Network) – Pete Strickland was fired Monday from his
position as men’s basketball coach at Coastal Carolina.
The Chanticleers finished 10-19 this season, including a 7-9 mark in the Big
South Conference. Coastal Carolina was the eighth seed in the conference
tournament, losing in the quarterfinals to top-seeded Winthrop.
“The decision was made, after the season, that this program needed to go in a
new direction,” said athletic director Warren Koegel. “We want to compete and
challenge for Big South Conference championships and feel that we need to make
a change to get there. Coach Strickland is a class act and made sure that his
teams were made up of quality student-athletes, both on and off the court. We
appreciate all his hard work at Coastal.”
Strickland was 70-127 in seven years at Coastal, including a 42-56 record in
Big South Conference play.
