Report: Theus to coach Aggies
Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) – Former NBA player Reggie Theus is expected
to become the next head coach at New Mexico State.
According to a story on the web site of the Albuquerque Tribune, Theus is the
top choice for the job and will likely be introduced at a news conference on
Theus, who has been an assistant at Louisville under head coach Rick Pitino
for four seasons, played 13 campaigns in the NBA. He will take over for Lou
Henson, who retired in January for health reasons. Henson was 779-413, sixth
among Division I coaches in career wins.
Tony Stubblefield took over on an interim basis for the Aggies, who finished
the 2004-05 season 6-24, including a 1-14 mark in the Sun Belt Conference.
The 47-year-old Theus is with the Louisville team in Albuquerque, as the
Cardinals prepare for a regional final against West Virginia.
