UNC leads Illinois at halftime
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) – Through 20 minutes of action, North Carolina
holds a 40-27 lead over Illinois in the championship game of the NCAA
Tournament at the Edward Jones Dome.
Rashad McCants leads all scorers with 14 at the break. He made a couple of big
shots in the final minutes that helped the Tar Heels open up a double digit
His layup with 3:20 remaining ended an 8-0 spurt that gave North Carolina a
35-25 advantage. He later hit a three-pointer with 47 seconds left that gave
the Tar Heels their 40-27 halftime lead.
Sean May has eight points and six boards and Raymond Felton also has eight
points at the break for the Tar Heels, who are looking for their fourth
national title and first since 1993.
Jake Ingram led the Illini scorers with seven points. Luther Head has been
held to six points on 2-of-9 shooting, while Dee Brown has only five points
and Deron Williams has four after 20 minutes.
North Carolina is shooting 54 percent from the floor, compared to just 27
percent for the Illini.
Illinois is seeking its first national title in school history.
