Eastern Kentucky names Neubauer hoops coach

Richmond, KY (Sports Network) – Eastern Kentucky named Jeff Neubauer its new
men’s head basketball coach Monday. Neubauer had been an assistant at West
Virginia the past three seasons.

Neubauer takes over for Travis Ford, who took the same post with Massachusetts
in March. Under Ford last season, the Colonels went 22-9 and made their first
NCAA tournament berth in 26 years. Ford compiled a 61-80 record during his
tenure at Eastern Kentucky.

West Virginia, meanwhile, reached the Elite Eight under Neubauer’s tutelage
but lost to Louisville in the Albuquerque Regional final.

“As a young coach, you dream of taking over a Division I program in very good
shape with a chance to win, and that’s the case at EKU,” Neubauer said. “I
understand how important the game of basketball is in Kentucky, and as a
coach, that’s something you look for.”

Neubauer, who was given a four-year contract with an annual salary of $150,000
at EKU, was an assistant at The Citadel for three seasons and Richmond for
five seasons.
