Hilltoppers guard dies after collapsing
Bowling Green, KY (Sports Network) – Western Kentucky guard Danny Rumph died
Sunday after collapsing during a pickup basketball game, the school said.
Rumph, a 21-year-old junior, was visiting his family in Philadelphia at the
time. No further details were available, but Hilltoppers head coach Darrin
Horn said he spoke with the family by telephone Monday morning.
“We are shocked and saddened by the tragic news we received this morning,”
Horn said in a release issued by the university. “Danny was loved and
respected by not only everyone in the basketball program, but by many people
in the Western community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Danny’s family.”
Rumph started 29 of Western Kentucky’s 31 games last season, and for the
second straight year was named the team’s Most Improved Player. He averaged
9.1 points and 28.2 minutes per game.
