Observations from the Second NBA Round and Beyond

  • The send off the Indiana Pacer fans gave Reggie Miller was touching. I don’t consider myself a sentimental softy, however I was truly moved by the appreciation they showed him. He helped that organization standout in a league that caters to teams from big cities like New York , Los Angeles , and Chicago . A feat that was as great as anything that he has ever accomplished in the NBA.
  • So now Dwyane Wade is the best player in the league? I guess it doesn’t take much to earn that title these days. All you have to do is play really well against wack teams like the Nets and Wizards and you’re the greatest thing since TiVo.
  • And Chris Rock has lost his ever loving mind. Whose idea was it to give him an NBA Minute?
  • Shaq’s doing a great job of preparing his excuse (thigh bruise???) for why the Heat won’t make the Finals.
  • Mark Cuban didn’t want to give Steve Nash a big contract, so he let him walk and gave the money to Erick Dampier. I’m sure he’s sleeping well these days.
  • Although I knew they’d lose, I was really impressed by the way the Sonics battled the Spurs. And maybe if the Sonics were healthy, they might’ve made that series even more interesting. During that series, I came to two conclusions, hearing Ray Allen whine about Bruce Bowen went against everything a truly competitive player would do, and Manu Ginobili is surdiculously (absurd + ridiculous) annoying.
  • The Washington Wizards played two games at home against the Miami Heat without Shaq and still couldn’t win a game. That fact alone should disqualify them from making the 2006 playoffs.
  • I’m going to have to reevaluate my opinion of Dirk Nowitzki after his non-MVP like performance in the playoffs.
  • Ben Wallace may get all the accolades, but Chauncey Billups is the guy who makes the Pistons go.
  • I’m feelin’ the new Nike ads. Here’s how they rank in my opinion: Steve Nash/Tornado, Rasheed Wallace/Fire, Earl Boykins/Frog, LeBron James/Lion, and Dirk Nowitzki/Eagle.
  • Why does Mike Breen (ESPN NBA announcer) make it a point to tell us that Manu Ginobili is from Argentina every time he does something?
  • Did Jeff Van Gundy have to sell his soul to make his troubles go away so quickly?
  • After watching Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, I don’t think the Suns are going to win a game. Sweep City Baby!!!
  • Which reminds me, the Suns have most un-intimidating home court advantage in the league.
  • But I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how incredible Steve Nash has been thus far. He’s been the MVP of the playoffs too.
  • Here’s hoping the Lakers get the number one pick in the draft. And just for your information, I’m just a little salty now.
