Kennedy resigns to join Hurricanes
Hammond, LA (Sports Network) – Billy Kennedy resigned Thursday as head coach
at Southeastern Louisiana. Kennedy has accepted an offer to be associate head
coach with the University of Miami Hurricanes.
Kennedy led SE Louisiana to a pair of Southland Conference regular-season
titles and its first-ever berth in the NCAA Championships.
“Coach Kennedy and his staff did a wonderful job in returning our program to
prominence and laying a successful foundation for the future,” said Frank
Pergolizzi, director of athletics. “We wish him the best in his new position.”
The Lions finished 24-9 in 2004-05, winning the Southland Conference regular-
season and tournament titles.
In six seasons as head coach at Southeastern, Kennedy posted an 80-94 record
and ranked third in school history in career wins behind Luther Marler and Ken
After spending 11 years as an assistant that included stops at Cal, Wyoming,
Texas A&M, Tulane and Northwestern State, Kennedy came to Southeastern in
1999-2000 after two seasons as head coach at Centenary (La.) College.
Kennedy joins a staff at Miami led by second-year head coach Frank Haith.
