Howard names Jackson basketball coach

Washington, DC (Sports Network) – Howard University named Gil Jackson head
coach of the men’s basketball team, filling the vacancy left by the fired
Frankie Allen. Jackson will be officially introduced at a news conference on
Monday.

Jackson had been an assistant to Fran Dunphy at the University of Pennsylvania
for the past 16 years and during that time he has helped the Quakers to
eight NCAA tournament appearances.

Prior to his tenure at Penn, Jackson was the head coach at the Sanford School
(1981-1989), a private high school in Delaware.

Allen, Jackson’s predecessor, was fired after leading the Bison to a 5-23
record in 2004-05. The dreadful season included a 17-game losing streak to end
the year and a 2-16 record in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
