Auburn allows Douglas to leave school
Auburn, AL (Sports Network) – The University of Auburn granted guard Toney
Douglas his release from the school to any non-Southeastern Conference
institution on Tuesday.
“Toney is a good kid. I feel that last year was extremely positive as he had
an outstanding freshman season at Auburn,” head basketball coach Jeff Lebo
said. “Unfortunately, there were some unrealistic demands and expectations
placed upon Auburn basketball and the coaching staff.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Douglas led Auburn in scoring as a freshman last
season, averaging 16.9 points — good enough for fourth in the SEC. He
also tied a school freshman record with 38 points versus Nicholls State.
Douglas then declared for the NBA draft after his stellar season, but was not
invited to the NBA’s pre-draft camp in Chicago. However, he did not sign with
an agent though, thus remaining eligible to return to college.
