Georgia State names Mary McElroy AD
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) – Georgia State University named Mary
McElroy its new director of athletics during a Wednesday press conference.
McElroy, who will officially take over on July 18, is currently the senior
associate athletic director and senior women’s administrator at Georgia Tech
and has spent the last six years as a part of the Yellow Jackets’ athletic
“Georgia State is pleased and excited to name Mary McElroy to lead the
university’s athletics program as it officially joins the Colonial Athletic
Association,” said university president Carl Patton. “Her significant
management experience and knowledge of intercollegiate athletics will be a
great asset to our coaches, student athletes and staff.”
She succeeds Greg Manning, who resigned in December.
Prior to her arrival at Georgia Tech, McElroy spent four years at her alma
mater, the U.S. Naval Academy, as senior women’s administrator and compliance
McElroy is a 1987 Navy graduate and served five years in the Marine Corps,
achieving the rank of captain. She earned a masters degree in management from
Georgia Tech in 2000.
Georgia State will officially join the Colonial Athletic Association for all
sports on July 1. The Panthers had previously been a member of the Atlantic
