Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) – Hofstra University has rewarded men’s
basketball coach Tom Pecora with a new five-year contract.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the new pact runs through
the 2009-10 season.

Pecora led Hofstra to a 21-9 record during the 2004-05 season, including a
12-6 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Pride began the campaign
9-0, marking the best Division I start in school history, and reached the
National Invitation Tournament — losing in the opening round to Saint

In four years since taking over from Jay Wright, Pecora has a record of 55-65.
He spent seven years as an assistant to Wright before being promoted when
Wright left for Villanova after the 2000-01 season.

“Hofstra is home to me, my family and staff,” said Pecora in a release by the

Pecora was named the 2004-05 Division I Men’s Coach of the Year by the
Basketball Coaches Association of New York.
