Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – Micheal Blackshear, 21, a former player at
Temple University, died following an early morning shooting in North
Philadelphia on Thursday.
Blackshear was shot in the back of the head just before 2:30 a.m. by an
unidentified person who fled the scene by car, according to city police, the
Philadelphia Inquirer reported. He was brought to Thomas Jefferson University
Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:42 a.m.
The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 2.3 points and a team-best 5.9 rebounds for the
Owls during the 2003-04 campaign, but was suspended indefinitely by head coach
John Chaney prior to the start of last season. Blackshear then transferred to
nearby Cheyney University, a Division II school, in January.
