Pat Knight to follow father as Texas Tech head coach
Lubbock, TX (Sports Network) – Pat Knight will reportedly take over for his
father, Bob, as head coach at Texas Tech.
The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported Saturday that the school has signed a
contract to designate Pat Knight as the head coach once Bob Knight has decided
to call it a career.
The paper said the younger Knight will receive a five-year deal to take the
reigns of the Red Raider program. Bob Knight’s current contract runs through
“I’m really excited about this,” Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers
told the paper. “I’ve observed Pat a lot, and I think he’ll be a quality head
coach. I also think this will enhance our recruitment and keep the continuity
of the program because we know who our next coach will be and the recruits are
going to know that, too.”
Bob Knight will enter his fifth season at Texas Tech this November. He, of
course, spent 29 highly-successful seasons at Indiana, winning three national
championships with the Hoosiers.
