Durham, NC (Sports Network) – J.J. Redick scored 16 of his game-high 18 points
in the opening half, as top-ranked Duke used a dominating opening 20 minutes
to breeze past Seton Hall, 93-40, in the quarterfinals of the Preseason NIT at
Cameron Indoor Stadium. DeMarcus Nelson added 16 points and Greg Paulus
scored 12 for the Blue Devils (2-0), who built a 30-point halftime lead to
advance to the semifinals and a matchup against either Sam Houston State or
Drexel next Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. Duke upended Boston
University, 64-47, on Monday and will host Davidson on Saturday before its
trip to New York. Brian Laing had 11 points for Seton Hall (1-1), which was
dealt its second- worst loss in school history. The Pirates, who beat
Manhattan, 66-52, on Monday, made just 4-of-31 shots in the opening half
and trailed 43-13 at the break. They hit on just one of their first 22
field goal attempts and finished the game at a 24.1 percent clip, connecting
on 13-of-54 shots.

Austin, TX (Sports Network) – P.J. Tucker scored 22 points as Texas handled
its second straight mid-major opponent, defeating Samford 77-33 in the second
round of the Guardians Classic at the Frank Erwin Center. LaMarcus Aldridge
added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Longhorns (2-0), who shot 47 percent
from the floor and held a staggering 54-15 edge on the boards. Ten Longhorns
got in the scorebook, with Texas holding a 30-2 advantage in bench points.
Travis Peterson led the Bulldogs (1-1) with 12 points, as Samford shot just 26
percent from the floor and the perimeter-oriented team took only two free
throws. Now, it’s on to Kansas City, as Texas will play West Virginia in
a Monday night semifinal. Iowa and Kentucky play in the other semifinal
of the Guardians Classic.
