Washington, DC (Sports Network) – George Washington senior forward Pops
Mensah-Bonsu was suspended three games on Wednesday for NCAA violations
dealing with his early declaration for the NBA draft.

The 2005 Atlantic 10 all-conference second team member missed the Colonials’
regular-season opener versus Kennesaw State on Wednesday. He will also miss
games against Norfolk State and St. Francis, Pa.

Mensah-Bonsu, an integral part of George Washington’s NCAA Tournament team a
year ago, averaged 12.6 points and 6.6 rebounds as a junior.

The senior forward withdrew just a week after declaring himself eligible for
the June NBA draft.

The university’s decision to suspended Mensah-Bonsu “is due to certain
activities and miscommunications that occurred last spring surrounding the NBA
draft and tryout process that resulted in inadvertent violations of NCAA
legislation,” said the school in a statement.
