No. 19 Colonials cool Red Flashes

Washington, DC (Sports Network) – Danilo Pinnock scored 20 points, as 19th-
ranked George Washington pulled away in the second half for an 85-68 triumph
over St. Francis (PA) at the Smith Center.

Maureece Rice tallied 16 points, Mike Hall contributed 15 and Omar Williams
scored 13 points for the Colonials (3-0), who shot 62 percent (18-of-29) in
the second half and 56 percent for the game.

Grant Surprenant had 26 points and Rahsaan Benton added 16 points for the Red
Flashes (2-4), who went 9-of-24 from the field in the second half after being
tied at 35 at the break.

J.R. Enright had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Red Flashes. His three-
point play gave St. Francis a 43-40 lead with 16:18 remaining. A free throw by
Garrett Farha had the Red Flashes in front 44-42 with 15:12 left, but GW would
take the lead for good with an 8-1 run.

Rice’s layup capped the spurt, as GW led 48-44 with 14:04 to play.

A free throw by Enright still had the Red Flashes within 53-50 with 11:08 to
go, but the Colonials responded with a 13-2 push to seal the victory. Williams
started the run with a jumper and two free throws from Rob Diggs ended it to
give GW a 66-52 cushion with 7:12 remaining.

A jumper by Pinnock pushed GW’s advantage to 20 points at 74-54 with 4:43

The Colonials were ahead by as many as 10 points in the first half, but St.
Francis made 58 percent of its shots in the opening 20 minutes to head off the
court at intermission tied.

Game Notes

Hall also had eight rebounds…GW was 1-of-8 from three-point range…GW leads
the all-time series, 5-1…Farha dished out 12 assists.
