Gray keys Oklahoma’s win over Southern

Norman, OK (Sports Network) – Taj Gray poured in 22 points and pulled down 14
rebounds, as the eighth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners rolled past the Southern
Jaguars, 68-54, at the Lloyd Noble Center.

Kevin Bookout chipped in 16 points and had seven rebounds for the Sooners
(6-1), who remain undefeated at home in five games. Terrell Everett added 10
points in the victory.

Chris Alexander scored 20 points for Southern (2-7), which remains winless in
seven road games this season.

No other players scored in double figures for the Jaguars. Alvin Mott added
nine points in defeat.

With 1:42 left in the opening half, Nate Carter’s layup gave the Sooners a
34-24 lead, capping an 11-4 spurt. Carter ended the game with eight points and
seven rebounds.

Oklahoma headed into halftime with a 36-27 advantage and were led by Gray’s 11
points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor.

The Jaguars stayed close by converting 5-of-7 three-pointers in the opening
20 minutes of action. Southern finished the game 8-of-13 from beyond the arc.

With 8:27 remaining in the second half, Everett drained a three-pointer,
capping a 16-7 run, giving the Sooners a 58-39 lead.

Gray converted a layup and free throw with 3:44 left in the game, giving
Oklahoma a 20-point advantage at 67-47.

Game Notes

This was the first ever meeting between the schools…The Sooners have now
held their opponents to 60 or fewer points in all six victories…Both teams
shot rather poorly with Oklahoma hitting 38.1 percent from the floor and
Southern 35.3 percent.
