Fazekas leads Wolf Pack over Ragin’ Cajuns

Reno, NV (Sports Network) – Nick Fazekas scored a game-high 26 points in
leading the 20th-ranked Nevada Wolf Pack to a 65-58 win over the Ragin’ Cajuns
of Louisiana-Lafayette in non-conference action from the Lawlor Events Center.

Fazekas, who shot 8-of-14 from the floor and converted 4-of-7 shots beyond the
arc, also cleared eight rebounds for the Wolf Pack (10-1) as they won their
fourth straight decision. Marcelus Kemp came off the bench to add 12 points
while Ramon Sessions, who shot only 1-of-9 from the field, paced Nevada on the
glass with 12 rebounds.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (3-7) were led by Dwayne Mitchell who put up 20 points,
pulled down 10 rebounds and recorded five steals as the team lost for the
second time in the last three outings. Michael Southall added 14 points and
six boards before fouling out, while J.T. Fields chipped in 12 points on 4-
of-8 shooting from beyond the arc.

Nevada started out the game rather slow, but despite shooting just 27.3
percent from the field, still managed to post a 28-22 lead at the break. The

In the second half, the Wolf Pack pushed its lead to 48-28 at the 11:26 mark
before letting the Ragin’ Cajuns climb back into contention before capturing
the seven-point win at home.

Game Notes

With the win the Wolf Pack knotted the all-time series with UL-Lafayette at
two games apiece…Nevada is now off to its best start in 27 years, matching
the 1978-79 squad that opened 10-1 before finishing 21-7…The Pack shot just
14-of-27 at the free-throw line, coming up empty on seven straight attempts
over the final 1:22 of the contest…UL-Lafayette was a mere 5-of-20 from
three-point range on the night…Nevada finishes non-conference play on
Saturday as it heads to St. Mary’s.
