Duke blows out Bucknell
Durham, NC (Sports Network) – Shelden Williams scored 23 points and grabbed 11
rebounds and J.J. Redick tallied 22 points as the top-ranked Duke Blue Devils
routed the Bucknell Bison, 84-50, at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Josh McRoberts notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards and Sean
Dockery contributed 10 points for Duke (13-0), which shot 54.2 percent from
Chris McNaughton scored 15 points and Jason Vegotsky added 12 points for
Bucknell (9-3), which has lost two straight after a four-game winning streak.
A veteran Bison squad that already won at the Carrier Dome against Syracuse
and at DePaul wasn’t intimidated playing inside the close confines of Cameron
However, while Bucknell may have started the game in a comfort zone, Duke
quickly turned up the heat.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 17-2 lead. Redick and Williams each scored
five points and Lee Melchionni’s jumper with 13:48 left in the half gave Duke
the large advantage.
Dockery’s jumper with 2:50 remaining in the half gave Duke a 41-17 lead and
the Blue Devils held a 42-19 lead at the break.
Kevin Bettencourt’s three-pointer trimmed the deficit to 42-28 just over two
minutes into the second half, but Duke scored the next 13 points to put the
Williams scored six straight points and Dockery’s three-point play gave the
Blue Devils the 55-28 lead with 13:28 to play.
This was the first time in the history of the Bucknell basketball program that
the Bison took on the top-ranked team in the nation…Duke leads the all-time
series 3-0…Duke held a 38-31 edge on the glass…The Bison committed 20
