UAB loses Eddins for season

Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) – UAB senior forward Demario Eddins will miss
the remainder of the season because of a ruptured Achilles’ tendon.

Eddins was hurt during Monday’s 68-62 win over Virginia Commonwealth and is
expected to undergo surgery on Wednesday. Recovery time for a torn Achilles’
tendon is about six months.

“This is a tremendous blow to our basketball program and our basketball
family, but more importantly to Demario ” said UAB head coach Mike Anderson.
“He is a four-year starter and was one of the foundation-laying members of the
resurgence of UAB basketball over the last four seasons.”

Eddins averaged 13.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 12 games for the Blazers (9-3)
this season.

The 6-foot-7 native of Chicago is just the second UAB player to register more
than 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists and 175 steals, joining Stanley
Jackson (1989-93).

Eddins ranks 11th on UAB’s all-time scoring list with 1,241 points.
