Hansbrough leads Tar Heels over Davidson

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) – Tyler Hansbrough netted 23 points and
pulled down eight rebounds as 25th-ranked North Carolina rolled past Davidson,
82-58, at Smith Center.

Five of Hansbrough’s rebounds were offensive and Reyshawn Terry chipped in 16
points with four blocks for the Tar Heels (8-2), who won for the fifth time in
their last six outings. Danny Green added eight points and eight rebounds in
the win.

Marcus Ginyard contributed eight points and four steals for North Carolina,
which improved to 7-1 at home this season.

Brendan Winters scored 18 points for the Wildcats (7-5), who lost for the
third time in their last four games. Jason Richards chipped in 12 points in
the loss.

Kenny Grant added eight pints and five assists as Davidson fell to 1-5 on the
road this season.

North Carolina hit 48 percent (30-of-63) from the floor, while Davidson only
connected on 32 percent (21-of-65).

Early in the contest, a 9-2 run by North Carolina gave the Tar Heels a 13-5
lead. A three-pointer by Matt McKillop later pulled Davidson to within 17-12
with 8:49 remaining in the first half before a huge run by North Carolina
paced the rest of the game.

David Noel’s basket ignited a 17-0 spurt by North Carolina as it pulled away
to a 34-12 edge with 2:38 remaining. Two free throws by Hansbrough finished
off the spurt, but Davidson netted the last eight points of the half to make
it a 34-20 deficit after 20 minutes.

The big run was to much for the Wildcats to overcome however. After a three-
pointer by Grant pulled Davidson to within 41-27 2:47 into the second half,
North Carolina used an 8-0 spurt to go ahead 49-27.

Later, Terry scored nine points during an 11-3 Tar Heel run that put North
Carolina ahead 60-32 with 10:59 remaining. An 11-4 run by North Carolina later
