Longhorns breeze past Cyclones
Ames, IA (Sports Network) – Kenton Paulino scored a game-high 20 points to
lead eighth-ranked Texas to a 78-58 win over Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum.
Daniel Gibson had 19 points and seven rebounds for the Longhorns (13-2, 2-0
Big 12), who have won five straight games. P.J. Tucker finished with 17 points
and seven boards in the win.
Rahshon Clark led Iowa State with 18 points. Will Blalock scored 17 points for
the Cyclones (11-4, 1-1), who had a five-game winning streak come to an end.
Texas grabbed a comfortable lead at 49-36 on four consecutive points by
LaMarcus Aldridge almost seven minutes into the second half. Gibson later
buried back-to-back three-pointers for a 68-49 Texas cushion.
The rout was on after that and Iowa State had no chance for a comeback.
The Cyclones trimmed the lead to 28-26 on a Clark jumper, but two Paulino
three-pointers staked Texas to a 34-26 lead late in the first half.
Texas then carried a 34-29 edge into the locker room.
Brad Buckman had 10 points and nine boards for Texas, which had a 41-28
advantage on the glass…Paulino buried 6-of-8 three-pointers, while Gibson
nailed 4-of-8 from beyond the arc…Clark was 4-of-7 from three-point range
for the Cyclones…Iowa State leads the all-time series, 8-7.
