Bearcats’ Kirkland out for season

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) – Cincinnati Bearcats forward Armein Kirkland
is expected to miss the remainder of the season after tearing the ACL in his
left knee.

Kirkland suffered the injury in the Bearcats’ 70-59 loss to Connecticut on
Monday. He had 14 points before leaving the game with just under nine minutes
to go in the half and Cincinnati trailing 22-18.

He is expected to have surgery on Friday.

“I am really disappointed for Armein and our team because our guys have been
playing very well of late and he was a big part of that,” said UC head coach
Andy Kennedy. “It is unfortunate for something like this to happen to a senior
who has given so much to this program for four years. We will really miss him
the rest of the season.”

A senior, Kirkland averaged 9.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 16
games this season. He scored in double figures in nine of his last 12 games to
help the Bearcats compile a 10-1 record over the last 11 games.
