Alabama’s Davis out for the season

Tuscaloosa, AL (Sports Network) – The University of Alabama will be
without All-Southeastern Conference forward Chuck Davis as he will miss the
remainder of the season after tearing both his ACL and MCL in his right knee.

On Tuesday, he underwent surgery by Dr. Lyle Cain in Birmingham, AL.

Davis suffered the injury seven minutes into Alabama’s SEC opener against Ole
Miss, a 71-61 loss on January 7.

“It happened very quickly,” said Davis. “I’m not sure what happened. I came
down and felt a sharp pain. I kind of stumbled back and I really didn’t know
how hurt I was until I tried to take a step and my knee just felt a little
shaky. I really didn’t think it was as serious as it is.”

The recovery time for the senior is expected to be three to six months.

“He is obviously done for the year so that’s a tough blow for our team,” said
head coach Mark Gottfried. “We’re really disappointed for Chuck and sad. I
care about him so much. I cried with him the other day — you hate to see that
happen to a young person. And he’s just a great guy and he was having a great
year.”

The John R. Wooden National Player of the Year candidate is the Crimson
Tide’s leading scorer this season, averaging 17.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in
13 games.
