Diaz and Hite shoot Miami past UNC

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) – Guillermo Diaz and Robert Hite both scored
24 points as Miami-Florida upset No. 20 North Carolina, 81-70, in an ACC
matchup at the Smith Center.

Anthony Harris chipped in with 17 points and six assists for the Hurricanes
(10-6, 2-1 ACC), who won for the first time ever in Chapel Hill.

Freshman forward Tyler Hansbrough tallied 25 points and seven rebounds for the
Tar Heels (10-3, 2-1), who lost for the first time in five games. Reyshawn
Terry added 18 and seven boards while David Noel had seven points and a game-
high 10 rebounds for North Carolina in the loss.

The Tar Heels tried to shake Miami with a 8-2 spurt, capped by Terry’s three,
which gave North Carolina its largest lead, 39-32, with less than two minutes
gone in the second half.

The more experienced Hurricanes kept their composure and answered with a 12-0
run of their own that featured seven points from Hite. Diaz finished things
with 1-of-2 free throws to give Miami a 44-39 edge with just over 15 minutes
to play.

North Carolina quickly regained their footing and tied the game at 49 on a
Noel basket with less than 13 minutes left.

The two teams continued to trade baskets over the next several minutes and
found themselves deadlocked at 62 with 4:31 remaining.

Harris broke the tie with a three from the right wing to spur a 9-0 run.
Diaz’s step back trey from the top of the circle gave Miami a 71-62 advantage
with just 1:43 left in the game.

The Hurricanes then calmly sunk their free throws in the final minute to seal
the victory.

North Carolina came out of the gates slowly and struggled to get good looks
against Miami’s zone defense. The Hurricanes played front-runner until a
Terry trey, with just over six minutes left in the first frame, which gave the
Tar Heels their first advantage, 23-22.

Both teams had trouble finding the basket the rest of the way and North
Carolina took a slim 31-30 edge at the half. Hansbrough paced the Tar Heels
with 10 while Diaz matched him with 10 for Miami.
