Hairston leads Oregon past Arizona

Eugene, OR (Sports Network) – Malik Hairston poured in a game-high 23 points
and Aaron Brooks added 17 points, as Oregon defeated No. 24 Arizona, 73-68, at
McArthur Court.

Bruce Taylor contributed 11 points, while Brandon Lincoln and Ivan Johnson
each tallied 10 points for Oregon (9-8, 3-2 Pac-10), which shot a torrid 71.4
percent in the second half in its second straight victory.

Mustafa Shakur led Arizona (10-6, 3-3) with 19 points and Hassan Adams
contributed 15, while Ivan Radenovic and Chris Rodgers scored 12 points
apiece. Arizona has lost three of its last four games.

Arizona made 15-of-30 shots in the second half, but couldn’t get crucial stops
on the defensive end down the stretch.

Johnson’s layup pushed Oregon in front 66-64 with about three minutes left on
the clock, then Adams made one free throw to trim the deficit to one. Arizona
would never tie the game or retake the lead, as the Ducks finished the contest
on a 7-3 run.

McArthur Court went into a frenzy midway through the second half after a
shooting exhibition by Hairston. The forward drained four threes in just over
four minutes to spur Oregon’s 16-3 burst. His first three-pointer gave Oregon
a 47-44 lead and his slashing lay-in gave the Ducks a 60-49 edge with just
under nine minutes left.

Oregon led 33-29 at the half.
