No. 5 Memphis rolls over SMU

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) – Rodney Carney scored 15 points to lead fifth-
ranked Memphis past SMU, 73-53, at FedEx Forum.

Joey Dorsey contributed 13 points and eight rebounds while Darius Washington
Jr. also netted 13 points for the Tigers (15-2, 2-0 Conference USA), who have
won four straight games.

Bryan Hopkins scored a game-high 19 points for the Mustangs (7-7. 0-2), who
have dropped three straight contests.

After allowing the first two points of the game, Memphis quickly turned the
game into a laugher as it reeled off an 18-0 run. Carney had six points during
the spurt and Chris Douglas-Roberts added four, while Shawne Williams’ three-
pointer with 10:52 left capped the barrage and made it 18-2.

SMU, though, slowly came back and pulled within 25-15 on Bamba Fall’s dunk
just under four minutes later, but the Mustangs would not get any closer.

The Tigers eventually went into the locker room with a 33-22 edge.

Memphis kept the pressure up in the second half and widened the lead to 15
points on Carney’s layup with 18:04 left. The Tigers were never threatened
again and led by as many as 23 points in the waning minutes.
