Longhorns rout Red Raiders
Austin, TX (Sports Network) – LaMarcus Aldridge led a balanced attack with 19
points, as No. 5 Texas blew out Bobby Knight’s Texas Tech squad, 80-46, at the
Frank Erwin Center.
P.J. Tucker, Brad Buckman and Daniel Gibson each tallied 16 points for the
Longhorns (15-2, 3-0 Big 12), who have won seven in a row. Buckman also had
nine boards, while Tucker and Aldridge pulled down seven rebounds apiece.
Jarrius Jackson led the way with 21 points for the Red Raiders (10-8, 2-2),
who lost for just the second time in six contests. Martin Zeno added 13
points, but Texas Tech managed to make just eight shots in the second half and
ended the game shooting 36.7 percent.
Gibson started the game with a three-pointer, and the Longhorns led wire-to-
wire. Three-pointers by Kenton Paulino and Buckman moved Texas to an 11-2
lead. An 11-2 spurt later in the half extended the Longhorns to a 32-15
advantage, following a jumper from Tucker.
Jackson drilled a three at the end of the half, but the Red Raiders were
behind 41-25 at the break.
Texas’ lead grew to 20 points at 51-31 on a Paulino three-pointer with 13:55
remaining. A 13-2 push moved the cushion to 33 points, as Gibson nailed a
three-pointer for a 73-40 contest with 3:57 to go.
The teams will meet again February 6 at Texas Tech…Texas held a 37-25 edge
on the glass…The Longhorns shot 49.2 percent, including 54.8 percent in the
opening half…Gibson hit half of his eight three-point tries.
