Duke and Florida need to stay perfect

No. 1 Duke beat N.C. State. No. 2 Florida destroyed Savannah State. Duke is 17-0. Florida is 17-0. Neither of them have a terribly difficult remainder of the regular season.

The biggest disappointment would be if one of them blew their perfect record early in the post-season. No, wait. The BIGGEST disappointment would be one of them ruined their undefeated season with a loss prior to the NCAAs.

Duke gave many fans a scare, and many anti-Dukies a ray of hope, as they struggled to finally break away from the Wolfpack last night. J.J. Redick gave his usual performance and Shelden Williams contributed fairly, but it was Sean Dockery who provided the extra push for the Blue Devil win. Up until his late-game surge, Duke had trouble containing N.C. State’s Cedric Simmons, who finished with 28 points. If Dockery can become more consistent, the Devils will have no problem handling the Gators.

But … the depth of Florida could hurt. They’ve got five players averaging 11 points or more and nine players averaging more than 10 minutes a game. Duke … well, Duke has J.J.

All I ask is “Don’t lose!” Please, for the sake of college hoops, don’t lose.
