College Park, MD (Sports Network) – Nik Caner-Medley scored a game-high 23
points and Chris McCray added 21, leading 22nd-ranked Maryland to an 81-72 win
over Virginia Tech.

Caner-Medley pulled down eight rebounds, while James Gist scored 11 points for
the Terps (13-4, 3-2 ACC), who have won two straight and eight of their last
10 games.

Zabian Dowdell led Virginia Tech (10-8, 0-5) with 21 points. Coleman Collins
netted 18 points in the loss, the Hokies’ fourth in a row.

A 6-0 run by the Terps staked Maryland to a 19-14 lead midway through the
first half. Virginia Tech eventually took back the lead at 29-28 and carried a
38-37 edge into halftime.

Maryland scored the first six points of the second half for a 43-38
advantage and Caner-Medley’s three-point play later pushed the margin to 64-51
with less than nine minutes to go in the game.

The Hokies, though, trimmed the lead to single digits at 64-55 minutes later
on a Chris Tucker basket.

Maryland then held on for the win — its eighth in nine tries versus Virginia
Tech. The Terps now lead the all-time series with the Hokies, 25-5.
