Lady Vols vs the Blue Devils: someone has to lose
Tonight’s the night. The Tennessee Lady Vols head to Duke for, as I already mentioned, the best game in the women’s NCAA regular season.
There are a few players to keep an eye on. Tennessee’s Candace Parker and Duke’s Monique Currie.
Parker, a 6’3” redshirted freshman could easily be considered the player of the year so far. She entered college with a bang, winning the McDonald’s All-American dunk contest, and has maintained that reputation her first year. Averaging about 15 points a game, the “newbee” forward can make it happen in the paint and outside the the 3-point arc. With point guard, and leading scorer, Shanna Zolman by her side, the pair will definitely put up big numbers.
Currie, a 6’0” senior All-America, averages a little more than 15 points a game and put up an impressive 20 points in her team’s latest win against N.C. State. With guard Lindsey Harding leading Duke in assists with 4.2 per game, the two will be very hard to stop.
So it’s Parker and Zolman against Currie and Harding.
Duke and Tennessee are both 18-0 … as of now. Who’s gonna pick up the “1”?
(Oh, and as a side note, don’t forget about UNC. Undefeated, tied the school record for best season start … they’re big. The Heels face the Blue Devils Jan. 29 at Cameron Indoor.)
