Terps’ McCray declared academically ineligible
College Park, MD (Sports Network) – Maryland senior guard Chris McCray was
deemed ineligible for the Spring 2006 semester due to NCAA academic standards.
The suspension will begin Wednesday, the start of the spring term, when the
Terrapins travel to Georgia Tech.
Because of the university’s compliance with the Federal Education Rights and
Privacy Act, details of McCray’s academic troubles will remain withheld.
“I’d first like to apologize to my family, teammates and coaches for not
meeting NCAA standards, but I’ll continue to pursue my criminal justice
degree,” McCray said. “I’ll learn from this experience and look forward to
becoming very productive in life and as a student here at Maryland.”
McCray has averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.2 steals per
game for the Terps’ this season.
“Chris’ career was outstanding here at the University of Maryland,” coach Gary
Williams said. “He has contributed a great deal to our success the last 3-1/2
years. I’m fully confident Chris will be successful in life.”
