UConn’s Adrien and St. John’s Spears to miss games on Saturday

Storrs, CT (Sports Network) – The top-ranked Connecticut Huskies will be
without reserve freshman forward Jeff Adrien for their next game.

Adrien and St. John’s center Aaron Spears were ejected from Wednesday night’s
game during an altercation. The incident stemmed from a struggle over a
rebound between Spears and Adrien, leading to a punch thrown by Spears in
retaliation.

“I didn’t even know what was going on afterward,” said Adrien. “I guess he was
trying to throw a punch. I didn’t fight. I wasn’t attacking anyone. During
basketball people get elbowed – I got elbowed in practice. It was nothing
intentional.”

Under NCAA regulations, both players will automatically be suspended for their
next games following the ejections for fighting. The Huskies (17-1, 5-1 Big
East) travel to Providence (9-8, 2-4) on Saturday, while St John’s (10-7, 3-3)
will host No. 9 West Virginia (14-4, 5-0).

Adrien is averaging seven points and 4.9 rebounds this season, while Spears
has posted totals of 7.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
