Balanced attack leads No. 17 UCLA past Oregon State
Corvallis, OR (Sports Network) – Luc Richard Mbah a Moute led a balanced
attack with 14 points and eight rebounds, as No. 17 UCLA defeated Oregon
State, 63-54, at Gill Coliseum.
Jordan Farmar contributed 13 points and eight assists while Arron Afflalo and
Ryan Hollins added 11 points apiece for UCLA (17-4, 7-2 Pac 10), which won its
second consecutive game.
Sasa Cuic scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed seven boards for Oregon
State (10-10, 3-6), but no other Beaver finished in double figures. Jason
Fontenet added seven points in defeat.
The Bruins distanced themselves from Oregon State with a 22-8 scoring streak
to start the second half. Mbah a Moute’s two free throws and four straight
points from Michael Roll capped the extended streak and gave UCLA a 53-40
Back-to-back treys from Marcel Jones and Cuic followed by Jones’ layup capped
a quick 8-0 burst that got the Beavers within 55-48 with just over five
UCLA didn’t allow Oregon State any closer, as Farmar made a jumper then 1-of-2
free throws out of a timeout to give the Bruins a 60-50 lead with just under
three minutes on the clock.
Nick Dewitz’s trey again got the Beavers within seven, 60-53, but Cedric
Bozeman slashed in for a layup moments later to build the advantage back to
The Bruins made their free throws in the final minute to seal the conference
The back-and-forth first half ended with UCLA holding a slim 31-30 lead.
UCLA leads the all-time series 77-33…The Bruins improved to 5-0 in true road
games and 7-1 overall away from Pauley Pavilion…Oregon State fell to 5-3 at
home…Afflalo pulled down 10 rebounds…Jones tallied five points and Dewitz
had four points in the loss.
