No. 8 Gators fend off Rebels

Oxford, MS (Sports Network) – Taurean Green had 17 points to lead the eighth-
ranked Florida Gators to a 69-58 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels at Tad Smith
Coliseum.

Al Horford added 14 points and Walter Hodge added 10 points for the Gators
(19-2, 5-2 SEC), who have won two straight after dropping their previous two
games.

Clarence Sanders had 16 points and Trey Hampton added 11 for the Rebels (13-7,
3-4), who have dropped their past four games after staring out conference play
with three consecutive victories.

It was a close game throughout much of the first half.

A Hodge trey with 11:09 left sparked a 9-3 Gators run that made it 21-15 with
7:45 remaining after consecutive jumpers by Horford.

The Rebels closed to within one point twice, though, and trailed 25-24 after
Hampton slammed it home with 3:40 left.

However, Florida closed out the half with a 11-5 run and, on the strength of
back-to-back three-pointers by Hodge and Green, took a 36-29 lead into the
locker room.

Ole Miss closed to within 44-38 when Dwayne Curtis put in a layup 4:17 into
the second half. But Florida ripped off the next nine points and had a 53-38
lead after David Huertas drained two from the line with 11:23 to play.

The Rebels refused to surrender and clipped off a 18-8 burst to pull to within
five points, 61-56, after Sanders slammed the ball in with 1:37 remaining.

However, Ole Miss only managed to make one more basket the rest of the way.
