Horner leads Iowa past Purdue

West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) – Jeff Horner scored a game-high 32 points
including 7-of-10 from beyond the arc, as 23rd-ranked Iowa defeated Purdue,
77-68, at Mackey Arena.

Mike Henderson contributed 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, as
Iowa (17-5, 6-2 Big 10) won for the third time in a row and sixth time in its
last seven games.

Adam Haluska added 11 points and six rebounds in the victory.

Gary Ware led Purdue with 17 points and seven rebounds, as the Boilermakers
(7-13, 1-8) lost their fifth in a row and their ninth in the last 10 overall.

Matt Kiefer also netted 17 points for Purdue and grabbed six rebounds in

Iowa used a big second half, outscoring the Boilermakers 52-35 en route to

Trailing by eight points at the start of the second half, the Hawkeyes used an
11-0 spurt to take a 50-46 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining. Henderson
donated six points during the stretch.

Purdue continued to run in front after Horner and Haluska buried back-to-back
three-pointers to push the Iowa lead to 65-57 with 4:48 left in the game.

With 1:59 to play, Ware’s jump shot pulled the Boilermakers to within three
points at 69-66. Horner responded for Iowa, draining a trey with 1:29 to go,
for a 72-66 lead.

Purdue was unable to get any closer, as the Hawkeyes hit five free throws down
the stretch to seal it.

Purdue led 33-25 at halftime paced by Kiefer’s 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting
from the field. As a team, the Boilermakers shot 50 percent at the break.

Iowa turned the ball over 10 times in the opening 20 minutes.

Game Notes

Iowa improved to 3-4 on the road this season…Greg Brunner added 10 points
and seven rebounds for Iowa…The Hawkeyes committed only one turnover in the
second half…Purdue dropped to 7-3 at home this season…The Boilermakers
still lead the all-time series at 75-69.
