Coleman leads the way as No. 25 UNI defeats Wichita State

Cedar Falls, IA (Sports Network) – Eric Coleman scored 20 points and added
eight rebounds to lead the 25th-ranked Northern Iowa Panthers to a
68-56 win over the Wichita State Shockers at UNI Dome.

Ben Jacobson added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists and Grant Stout
added 11 points and 12 boards for the Panthers (21-4, 11-3 MVC), who have won
two straight and seven of their last eight games.

P.J. Couisnard had 17 points and Sean Ogirri added 11 in the loss for the
Shockers (19-6, 10-4), who had a two-game winning streak stopped. Paul Miller,
Wichita State’s leading scorer, was held to seven points on 3-of-12 shooting,
but did pull down nine boards.

Northern Iowa opened the second half with a 9-3 run to go ahead 43-33 after
Stout drained a three-pointer with 17:49 left.

The Shockers responded with a 17-7 run to tie it at 50 after Miller drained a
jumper with a little over half the game left.

However, Northern Iowa pulled away with an 11-2 run towards the end of the
game. Jacobson put the Panthers back on top with a three-pointer, then hit a
pair of fadeaway jumpers to increase his squad’s lead to 61-52.

Jacobson stole the ball from Couisnard beneath the basket on Wichita
State’s next possession, and capped the spurt on a jumper with 1:26 left
that made it 65-54 to seal the win.

It was a tight game throughout much of the opening 20 minutes. But, Brooks
McKowen drained a three-pointer with 7:28 left to spark an 11-3 UNI run.

The Panthers had a 34-30 lead going into halftime on the strength of 54-
percent shooting. The Shockers only hit 33-percent of their shots in the first
