Hoyas pound Red Storm
Washington, DC (Sports Network) – Brandon Bowman had 16 points to lead the
15th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas to a 64-41 victory over the St John’s Red Storm
at the MCI Center.
Roy Hibbert had 14 points and five rebounds and Jeff Green added nine points
in the victory for the Hoyas (17-4, 8-2 Big East), who have won their last
Anthony Mason had eight points and Lamont Hamilton added seven points for the
Red Storm (10-11, 3-7), who have dropped their last five games.
The Hoyas took control of the game from the start of the first half. They
started the game with a 14-2 run with Bowman and Hibbert each putting in six
points during the spurt.
The Red Storm got to within eight points after Hamilton drained a three-
pointer and connected on two from the line to make it 17-9 with 9:44 left in
the first half.
However, Georgetown scored the next eight points and eventually took a 30-19
lead into the locker room.
It didn’t get any better for St John’s in the second half. The team only
managed one basket in the first eight minutes, which allowed Georgetown to
build its lead to 48-21 after Jeff Green drained two free throws with 12:28 to
The Hoyas didn’t score a basket for almost the final four minutes of the game,
but they were leading by 32 points by then and the Red Storm were unable to
overcome such a large margin.
St. John’s leads the series, 50-37…St John’s won the rebounding battle,
27-26…The Red Storm only connected on 39 percent of their shots…The Hoyas
hit 50 percent of their attempts…St. John’s committed 13 turnovers, which
led to 20 of Georgetown’s points.
