Missouri’s Snyder resigns

Columbia, MO (Sports Network) – Missouri head basketball coach Quin Snyder
resigned his position, effective immediately.

According to a report by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Snyder told his team he
was quitting on Friday afternoon.

Associate head coach Melvin Watkins, a former head coach at Charlotte and
Kansas State, will take over the Tigers for the rest of the season.

Missouri is in the midst of a six-game losing streak and are in 11th place
in the Big 12 Conference.

Snyder, who played his college ball at Duke and was an assistant under Mike
Krzyzewski, had 20-win seasons in three of his first four years at the helm,
including an appearance in the Elite Eight. Since then, the team is just
42-42.

As of Friday night, the University had not acknowledged Snyder’s resignation
but did state that he would not coach the team Sunday against Kansas State and
Watkins would serve as the acting head coach.
