Engin roars as No. 21 NC State dominates
Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) – Engin Atsur scored 19 points, hitting 5-of-6
shots from three-point range, and dished out eight assists to lead 21st-ranked
North Carolina State over Florida State, 86-64, at the RBC Center.
Atsur, who ended the game shooting 6-of-7 from the floor, sparked a key 16-0
run to end the first half, as the Wolfpack (20-5, 9-3 ACC) rebounded from a
loss on Sunday to Georgia Tech to win for the fifth time in six outings.
Cedric Simmons added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Tony Bethel scored 13
points for NC State, which hit a blistering 64 percent of its shots (28-
of-44). Cameron Bennerman hit 3-of-6 from long range, finishing with 12
points, for the Wolfpack, who also hit 57 percent from three (13-of-23).
Alexander Johnson had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Seminoles (15-7,
5-6), who had a two-game winning streak snapped.
NC State began to pull away late in the first half. Ahead 29-27 with just over
four minutes remaining, the Wolfpack scored the final 16 points of the stanza
to take a commanding lead.
Atsur had eight points during the burst, starting it and ending it with a
three-pointer, as NC State extended to a 45-27 lead at the break.
The Seminoles never threatened in the second half, trailing by double figures
the entire time.
NC State’s largest lead came at the 15:52 mark when Gavin Grant connected on a
layup for a 55-31 cushion.
Atsur’s first shot attempt inside the arc didn’t come until there were 51
seconds remaining when he hit a layup for an 86-62 lead.
NC State improved to 15-1 at home…FSU fell to 3-5 on the road…Al Thornton
had 14 points and Ralph Mims tallied 11 for the Seminoles…FSU shot 42
percent for the game…Andrew Brackman had 12 points, five rebounds and five
assists for the Wolfpack…This was the one and only regular-season meeting
between these two clubs…NC State leads the all-time series 24-15.
