Chalmers leads Jayhawks past Missouri

Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) – Mario Chalmers paced a balanced Jayhawk
attack with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, as No. 22 Kansas thumped Missouri,
79-46, at Allen Fieldhouse.

Brandon Rush contributed 13 points, five rebounds and four assists for the
Jayhawks (19-6, 10-2 Big 12), who have won nine straight games. Russell
Robinson chipped in 10 points and had six steals in the win.

Jimmy McKinney and Thomas Gardner netted 15 points apiece for Missouri (11-12,
4-8), which has dropped six of seven. The Tigers suffered their first loss
under head coach Melvin Watkins, who took over last week following the
resignation of Quin Snyder.

Jason Horton finished with seven points and three assists for Mizzou.

Kansas began the game on a 16-2 run and remained well in front the rest of
the way. Rush had four points in the initial surge, which Jeff Hawkins capped
with a three-pointer about eight minutes in.

The Jayhawks continued to pull away in rapid fashion, and Rush’s jumper with
5:25 remaining bolstered their lead to 30-11.

By the end of the half, Kansas held a 42-23 lead.

The pattern continued in the second half. The Jayhawks first went up by 30
with 12:23 to play in the contest after C.J. Giles connected on a jump shot to
push the advantage to 58-28.

The lead got as high as 35 points following a Chalmers’ layup with about nine
minutes left on the clock.

The Jayhawks are just 1/2 game behind Texas in the Big 12 standings…Kansas
leads the all-time series, 161-93…Missouri had won the last two meetings
between the clubs…Kansas shot 53 percent from the field, while Missouri
shot just 32 percent…The Jayhawks won the rebounding battle, 41-20.
