Sooners sneaks by Cowboys in thriller
Norman, OK (Sports Network) – Terrell Everett hit two free throws with 0.6
seconds remaining, as 19th-ranked Oklahoma won its fourth straight game, all
by one point, this time squeaking past Oklahoma State, 67-66.
Taj Gray had 19 points and seven rebounds, while Everett ended with 13 points
for the Sooners (20-6, 11-4 Big 12), who also got 14 points from Kevin
Bookout. Nate Carter tallied 12 points.
Mario Boggan had 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting for the Cowboys (15-14, 5-10),
who have lost five of seven. Byron Eaton added 11 points, but made a crucial
mistake in the waning moments. JamesOn Curry ended with 10 points.
The Sooners beat Iowa State, Texas Tech, Kansas State all by a point in their
previous contests, and Monday night’s game, known as the Bedlam Series,
provided for extra dramatics, on a night when Oklahoma honored its seniors,
Bookout’s dunk off a long pass with 8.8 seconds left gave the Sooners a 65-64
lead. Bookout was fouled by Curry, but missed the ensuing free throw. Carter
tapped the ball toward midcourt for Oklahoma, but the ball went right to the
Cowboys’ Jamaal Brown, who was fouled by Michael Neal on a layup try.
Brown made both attempts with 4.7 seconds left. Then, without a timeout
remaining, Everett received the inbounds pass and dribbled three times near
the left sideline before running into first-year guard Eaton near midcourt.
