Washington cruises past Arizona State
Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) – Mike Jensen netted 14 points as the 14th-ranked
Washington Huskies breezed past the Arizona State Sun Devils, 91-66, in Pac-10
action at Wells-Fargo Arena.
Ryan Appleby, Jon Brockman, Brandon Roy and Jamaal Williams all scored 13
points for the Huskies (23-5, 12-5 Pac-10), who have won seven straight games.
Kevin Kruger shot 10-of-17 from the floor for 23 points for Arizona State
(10-16, 4-13), which has dropped two in a row. Jeff Pendergraph donated 15
points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
Washington outscored the Sun Devils 53-26 in the final twenty minutes en route
Trailing by two points at halftime, the Huskies opened the second half on an
11-2 run to take a 49-42 lead. Bobby Jones started the surge with a three-
pointer and Justin Dentmon capped it with a trey of his own.
With just under 10 minutes remaining, four straight points by Williams gave
Washington a 64-50 lead. Appleby then drilled a trey to increase the lead to
After Appleby’s three-pointer, the Huskies went on a 10-2 spurt to take a
77-52 advantage with around 7 1/2 minutes left in the contest.
The Sun Devils were never able to get back into the contest as the lead
hovered around 25 points the rest of the way.
Arizona State led 40-38 at the break powered by Kruger’s big first half with
19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Pendergraph and Serge Angounou
also chipped in with seven points apiece.
As a team, the Sun Devils shot 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from the field in the
opening twenty minutes.
The Huskies have won the last seven meetings in the all-time series…The last
four victories for Washington have come by double figures…Jensen was 4-of-5
from beyond the arc…Roy’s streak of nine straight games with 20 or more
points came to an end…Washington will close out its regular season on
Saturday against Arizona on the road.
