Winthrop edges Coastal Carolina to win Big South

Rock Hill, SC (Sports Network) – Craig Bradshaw’s short jumper with 9.9
seconds remaining lifted Winthrop to an exciting 51-50 victory over Coastal
Carolina in the Big South Tournament Championship.

After Colin Stevens sank a three-pointer with 33.7 seconds left to give
Coastal Carolina a 50-49 lead, the Eagles took the ball upcourt and Chris
Gaynor found Bradshaw, whose hook shot from the edge of the paint was right on

The Chanticleers’ Jack Leasure then turned the ball over in the final seconds
and Winthrop (23-7) was able to run out the clock and capture the conference’s
automatic NCAA bid for the second straight year.

Torrell Martin topped the Eagles with 10 points while Gaynor finished with six
assists for top-seeded Winthrop.

Stevens went 4-of-5 from three-point range and scored a game-high 18 points
for second-seeded Coastal Carolina (20-10), which had swept the Eagles in two
regular-season meetings.

Pele Paelay had 12 points for the Chanticleers.
