Rush pushes Jayhawks past Wildcats
Manhattan, KS (Sports Network) – Brandon Rush scored a game-high 24 points
and grabbed six boards as No.18 Kansas downed Kansas State, 66-52, at
Russell Robinson tallied 11 points and Mario Chalmers chipped in 14 for the
Jayhawks (22-7, 13-3 Big 12), who clinched their sixth Big 12 Conference
Cartier Martin scored 17 points and snatched nine rebounds to lead his team,
while Dramane Diarra totaled nine points and five boards for the Wildcats
(15-12, 6-10), who have now lost three of four.
With 12:38 to play, Martin hit a three-pointer and Lance Harris hit four
consecutive free-throws to bring the Wildcats to within three, 46-43.
The Jayhawks responded with a 10-1 run, capped by a Robinson three-pointer, to
put Kansas up 12, 59-47, with 5:14 to play.
David Hoskins hit a pair of foul shots for the Wildcats to make it an eight-
point game, 60-52, with 3:16 to play, but they would be shutout for the
remainder of the game.
The Jayhawks scored six straight points to end the game.
Kansas jumped out to an 18-7 lead after a Jeff Hawkins three. Diarra hit a
jumper with 8:27 left in the half to cut the lead to eight, 25-17, but the
Wildcats could get no closer in the first half.
The Jayhawks held a 15-point lead at the break, 39-24.
The Jayhawks shot 10-of-19 from beyond the arc for 52.6 percent, while Kansas
State shot only 4-of-9 for 44.4 percent…Kansas has won 12 of its last 13
games…The Wildcats won the first meeting between the two teams this season
on January 14th, 59-55.
