ASU fires Evans

Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) – Arizona State head men’s basketball coach Rob
Evans was apparently fired on Friday as men’s head basketball coach.

Although the school is not officially calling it a firing, vice president of
athletics Lisa Love made it clear in a press conference on Friday that she
made the decision.

Love met with Evans Friday morning when she broke the news to the eight-year
head coach.

“I worked through this season, watching and evaluating our basketball
program,” said Love. “I evaluated Rob’s body of work for the past eight years
and I decided that it was important for Arizona State University to make this

Love went on to say that Evans was “not totally surprised” by the decision. He
will be paid for the final year of his contract.

Evans was 119-120 in eight years at ASU. This year’s team went just 11-17
overall and 5-13 in Pac-10 play. The Sun Devils were eliminated in the first
round of the conference tournament on Wednesday by Oregon State.
