Green scores 18 as Florida beats LSU

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) – Taurean Green scored 18 points and had six
steals to lead the 16th-ranked Florida Gators to an 81-65 win over the 18th-
ranked Louisiana State Tigers in the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference

Joakim Noah totaled 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Corey Brewer also
tallied 15 points as all five starters scored in double figures for the Gators
(26-6), who will face South Carolina in Sunday’s final.

“We were able to find a way in the second half to put together some
consecutive stops on the defensive end of the floor, and we’re able to make
some threes,” said Florida head coach Billy Donovan. “Taurean knocked down
some shots to open up the game for us. Overall, I was very, very pleased with
the way our kids battled from start to finish.”

Darrel Mitchell scored a game-high 21 points and Tasmin Mitchell had 20 points
and nine rebounds for the Tigers (23-8), who saw their seven game winning
streak come to an end .

“They deserved to win by how they played,” said LSU head coach John Brady. “We
missed some opportunities, but it was good to see Darrel Mitchell make some
baskets today and get back in the rhythm of play a little bit. You know,
Tasmin Mitchell played well. Garrett Temple shot the ball last night for us.
He didn’t make as many as we needed tonight. Those things happen.”

The Tigers took a 41-38 lead into the second half, but Noah’s dunk with 16:16
left in the game put the Gators on top, 48-47, a lead they did not give up the
rest of the game.

Green scored the last eight points during a 10-0 run, which put the Gators
ahead 72-59 with 4:20 to play.

The Tigers could only get as close as nine points the rest of the way as
Florida scored the final seven points of the game to close out the victory.

A Garrett Temple layup with 13:58 to go in the first half gave the Tigers a
17-11 lead, however Chris Richard hit a jumper on the ensuing possession for
Florida to spark a 12-0 run for the Gators. Green capped off the spurt with a
conventional three-point play to give his team a 23-17 edge.

Darrel Mitchell sank a three-pointer to tie the game, 25-25, and start an 8-0
run for the Tigers. Tasmin Mitchell got loose for a dunk to cap the run,
putting LSU up five, 30-25. Tasmin Mitchell scored 15 points in the first half
to lead the Tigers to a three-point lead at the break.
